In her work, Laura Carralero (b. 1991, Havana) systematically explores the memory of spaces.

The basis of her artistic process is her precise observation of her surroundings, which she then reduces to fundamental spatial experiences. Through this process, the impressions she captures transform into fragmentary spaces where fiction and reality, the familiar and the unknown coexist. Carralero studied art at the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana. Since 2010, her work has been presented in various solo and group exhibitions in Cuba and the United States. Solo exhibitions include: Desierto, Estudio Taller, Havana (2017), and Fundación Ludwig de Cuba, Havana (2017).

She has focused on studying medieval art for several years, delving into its symbolic systems and transcendent quality.

Taking as her starting point the symbolism present in Byzantine icons, she has observed that they hold inexhaustible and limitless meanings beyond their religious context. This art prioritizes an aesthetic governed by a rigorous compositional principle of proportion, which, though often distorted, gives the art a timeless quality.

Her work reinterprets historical structures and archetypes, preserving their original references while engaging them in dialogue with the present through a contemporary visual language.

Dans son travail, Laura Carralero (née en 1991 à La Havane) s’intéresse de manière systématique à la réminiscence des espaces.

Le fondement de sa pratique repose sur l’observation précise de son environnement et sa réduction subséquente à des expériences spatiales fondamentales. À travers ce processus, les impressions saisies par Carralero se transforment en espaces fragmentaires où fiction et réalité, familier et inconnu, coexistent. Laura Carralero a étudié l’art à l’Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) de La Havane. Depuis 2010, son travail a été présenté lors de diverses expositions personnelles et collectives à Cuba et aux États-Unis. Expositions personnelles : Desierto, Estudio Taller, La Havane (2017) ; Fundación Ludwig de Cuba, La Havane (2017).

Depuis plusieurs années, elle se concentre sur l’étude de l’art médiéval, en explorant ses systèmes symboliques et sa dimension transcendante.

Elle a pris comme point de départ la symbolique présente dans les icônes byzantines, observant que, au-delà de leur contexte religieux, elles portent des significations inépuisables et illimitées. Cet art privilégie une esthétique fondée sur un principe compositionnel rigoureux des proportions, bien que souvent déformées, ce qui lui confère un caractère intemporel.

Son travail réinterprète des structures et archétypes historiques, en préservant leur référence d’origine, tout en leur permettant d’entrer en dialogue avec le présent à travers un langage visuel contemporain.
